Extend AppleCare+ Coverage for iPhone

I am about to buy my first iPhone. I have two other Apple products (computers) already. The iPhone Apple care can be bought monthly or for two years. After two years, can I extend the coverage for longer?

In the US, you can pay monthly and the cost ends up being the same. AppleCare + for iPhone cannot be extended beyond the two years.
