iphone 15 ProMax, FindMy, Apple Maps, and all location dependent service are unable to locate my iphone

I’ve probably everything a user can do.

  • Factory defaulted the phone
  • Removed all apps and only installed default apps
  • Changed the phone back plate [at Apple Store]
  • Change the entire phone
  • Reinstalling the eSIM and changing it

The problem still keeps coming up.

My phone seems to heat up [as if it’s having a hard time downloading] and through out that phase its unable to locate me.

Any Apps that leverage location [like weather] are unable to operate.

Apple, Google, Waze navigation just stall or completely fail.

I’m at lost, not sure what to do anymore,

I’ve selectively turned off features around cell/privacy but non seem to improve the situation.

Post reboot, or network restart the iphone is able to locate it self but in a matter a few min/hours it stalls again.

Stall = it looks like it’s having a hard time downloading content to maps or location - might be related to iCloud but I can’t check.

for the record I have a lot of photos on icloud 27,000 but i dont think thats a contributing factor [checked that all are sync’d and the problem still persists]

Outside of buying a new iphone 15, not sure what to do.

This started a few weeks back, but i have no explanation to why and what has changed.

Since im now on a refurbished HW i dont know how this might be HW related

IOS version 16.6.1

Thank you

I’ve identified the issue but it’s a painful solution. For me the issue was iCloud. Might be the large amount of images and videos I’ve stored online might be something else data related. All the above mentioned apps leverage iCloud for sync as the sync has taken hours to run it causes a cascading delay to the point of location services not functioning.

the solution was creating a new appleID and painfully selectively migrating some content over. Be aware it’s a painful process.

photos will not transfer over nor would files but worst is purchases, Apple Cc and more that are hard tired to the appleID. Hths. I’m back online working as expected but now I have to maintain two AppleIDs

Hey there GM2000,

We'd like to help by learning more about what's happening, along with confirming some of the details you mentioned:

  1. The first big thing to address is that you mentioned already taking it to an Apple Store to have it serviced, and therefore, it was physically inspected there. What exactly did the technicians say was the next step as the issue remained after they serviced it? The more details you provide, the better we'll understand what was discussed.
  2. We don't know what you meant when you said you tried a 'factory default' of your iPhone. Did you mean you restored it as new(not from a backup) using a computer? If not, let us know the exact steps you took to do the 'factory default'.
  3. As they relate to what's happening, have you already tried the steps under the section 'If you can't find your current location on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch' in this article? Check out: If Maps isn't working on your Apple device

Cheers!
