My WiFi extender Airport Express apparently was discontinued by Apple and I can't get it to work. I have Airport Extreme generating WiFi for my iMac which works. How do I extend WiFi to downstairs for me????

You may be a great candidate to upgrade your home's network with a Mesh network. If you are not familiar with Mesh networks they are simple to setup and are a FAR better solution than extenders. I happen to use a Google Mesh network, that I have had for about 3-4 years now and it's always been dead reliable and was extremely easy to setup. You can find them at a variety of locations including your local Best Buy and Costco and many other on-line locations. The Google system I am using is the one for $229 at Costco, like I said it works extremely well and supports about 40 wi-fi devices in my home including:
Macs, PCs, AppleTVs, iPhones, iPads, about 8 Sonos wireless speakers, about 10 smart plugs for controlling things like lights, fountains, timers etc....

I agree with rkaufmann87, in that your WiFi system is pretty dated, and uses pretty old WiFi protocols.
I've used a couple of mesh systems over the last few years, and am very pleased with my TP Link Deco system. It's priced well below the "big names" like LinkSys or Netgear, yet performs extremely well in my 2 story house.
If you want to upgrade to "bleeding edge", then I'd look for WiFi 7 mesh systems, as everyone will be transitioning to that WiFi spec very soon. I'd suggest at least WiFi 6E, which all the newest Apple products support.
MacMikeInOK - I am very pleased with my TP Link Deco 5 version 3 wifi mesh system because it works so well (400Gbhs) with my Samsung phone.
But I can't connect it to my iMac late 2015 27" using OS Monterey 12.7.2, so all I get is 60 Gbhs through a pair TP Link 6508s which (I think) are connected through Ethernet.
So are your Decos working with an iMac without a M chip?
If the Decos are incompatible, which routers would you suggest for my iMac?
