Do previously shared guides on Apple Maps really not update?

I've been giving Apple Maps another shot, and made several guides for an upcoming trip. I shared them with my partner, but when I make edits to the guide they don't seem to flow through to the version of the guide that I shared with my partner.

To get her the latest version of the guide, it seems like I need to re-send my partner a new link after every edit I make to the guide.

That's such an astonishingly poor user experience that I'm reluctant to believe it's true.

I found this thread from last year, which looks like a similar problem that went without clear resolution:

Please someone tell me there's a better answer than "sorry, you have to re-send the link to everyone you've ever shared it with any time you change anything on the guide"?
