imovie. Clips automatically become overlays. How Do I remove?
When I add a clip over the timeline it automatically becomes an overlay. I just want to cut to the clip.

Yes, that’s the way it is supposed to work. The timeline will cut away to the upper clip, and the upper clip will play but the overlaid part under the clip will not play while the upper clip is playing. If you don’t want that then do a Modify/Split Clip on the lower clip and insert the cutaway clip in between the split segments.

I figured it out. The second clip was shot from ABOVE ( a craft demonstration). When I inserted that clip it automatically became an overlay/cutaway which I did not want. I had to ROTATE the clip (crop/rotate) and now I can put the clip above the timeline and the picture goes to the clip - no overlay.
I'm not sure what happened there, but glad you got it working.
