SuperDrive not working

I got an Apple SuperDrive couple of years ago when I got my 2021 24" M1 iMac. I'm running Ventura. I never used the SuperDrive until today. It's plugged into a hub. It wakes up when plugged in but will not accept a disc. It shows up on the device tree, but not in the finder - therefore can't run disk utility. Launching the Mac with the left mouse button down does not eject a disk, and I do not believe a disk was ever put into it. Ideas?

The SuperDrive has to be plugged directly into a port. Not a hub or dock. You will need a USB C to USB adapter. Such as these from Syntech
