iMessages and flying

My “boyfriend”- his words, not mine, has been overseas for the last two months. We’ve been using wifi to communicate Vs paying for long distance. He’s on his way home today and I sent a text too late. On my watch it shows as delivered, but on my phone it’s just a blue bubble like it’s floating there in cyberspace. What does this mean or why would it do this??

Receiving texts, even though airplane mode is on When I had airplane mode on, I still got text messages. At first, I thought I hadn’t pressed the button correctly. On the second try, with airplane mode ON, I was even able to go on the internet & order something! Anyone have the same trouble as I’m having?
