Why is it that when I created my very first Apple ID my new phone claims that I already had one ?

I was Android all the way until I was hacked and am a victim yet again for the third time of identity theft.

  • if you see devices that don't belong to you, delete from your account.

  • Create a strong password for your Apple ID, It is best if your password consists of eight or more characters and include upper and lowercase letters, and at least one number. You can also add extra characters and punctuation marks to make your password even stronger. 
  • Never provide your password, passcode, security questions, verification codes, recovery key or any other account security details to anyone else. Apple will never ask you for this information.

What is the exact wording of the message you see?


You say this is a "new" phone, but do you mean it is just new to you but secondhand? If it is secondhand then it is possible the previous owner did not set it up correctly for a different user. If you see an "iPhone Locked To Owner" message take it back to the person from whom you received it. Get them to do the things in this support article or ask for a refund --> What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support


Unless you have the account information that set the lock, or the original receipt from Apple, you cannot remove the lock; recycle the device. Read this article about how to remove Activation Lock --> How to remove Activation Lock - Apple Support
