Emailing webpage from Safari on iPad Pro doesn't work

I have done this for years without issue but within the past 6 months it stopped working - I am browsing along, I am on a page I want to share so I hit the share icon in upper right, choose Mail, type in the recipients name, the name of the article or page is automatically on the subject line and the link is in the body automatically. All appears great. I hit send. It goes and all looks great. Later, the person didn't receive it so I look - and the mail is not in Sent and not in Drafts. It just disappeared. Every time. The only way I have been able to send Safari links for the past 6 months possibly longer is by copying the URL, opening Mail, composing an email. Will there ever be a fix for this?

Hello BorkBork,

To help us get a better understanding of the issue, we’d like to ask a few questions.

1. Does this only happen when trying to share webpages from Mail?

2. Do you experience this issue when trying to send to multiple contacts, or only specific ones?

3. Is the issue only when trying to share webpages/links from Safari? In other words, do you have any issues sending emails from the Mail app directly, when not trying to share a link?

The above details will help us plan how to proceed.

If you're unable to send email on your iPad, please check out this link, which maybe helpful: If you can’t send email on your iPhone or iPad

Before you begin

There are a few things to keep in mind and check:

* When you make an iOS or iPadOS backup in iCloud or iTunes, it backs up your mail settings, but not your email. If you delete or change your email account settings, previously downloaded email might be removed from your device.
* Make sure that your device is connected to the internet.
* Check with your email service provider to find out if there's a service outage.
* Look for the Undo Send button in your Inbox or list of mailboxes. If Undo Send is available, the message has not been sent.
* Learn what to do if you can't access your iCloud Mail, or you can't send and receive messages with your @icloud.com email address.

Thanks!

Mail works fine from the mail app.

The problem happens when I try to send to 1 person and also when I send to multiple.

It only happens when I send from Safari.

I'll be on an interesting page or article, it might be some page on within a site or it may be a top level site like just the google landing page.

I tap the share icon (the upper right box with arrow pointing up), choose Mail

Up pops a send mail interface with the subject and body filled in by Safari as expected. I either type in an address or begin typing a name to let my contacts list fill in the TO line

Then I tap the blue circle with arrow in it at upper right to send the mail. It disappears.

Now and then it will work (it worked just now while stepping through a mail to myself of this page to be sure I have the steps right) but often it does not.

It is possible that after sending just now (and other times when it works) that I have remained on the page of interest for a while after sending. Perhaps if I do a send then soon after close safari or browse elsewhere (as is often the case since I'll send interesting articles after I've finished reading them and won't stay on the page after a send) - so maybe there's just something taking longer to mail now than it used to and it somehow needs to remain on the page longer?

Hi Snik - I just downloaded a browser app and will try that. This is happening on iPad not on my Mac so the safe mode won't be a troubleshooting option.

Of course, the moment I finally mention it here it becomes hard to reproduce! It may be that it's been intermittent this past 6 months and the fails have loomed larger than the successes... this morning I've tried it in various combinations (different sites, different recipients) on Safari and Chrome and so far all have worked. I'd be trying it on things that didn't work but when it doesn't work I have no record in Sent or Drafts to remind me what I was sending and these are typically ephemeral things being sent to the husbandly unit not important "must not fail to mail this" stuff for work or anything.

Hi BorkBork,

If you haven't done so yet, make sure your iPad is running the latest iPadOS version, since this can help with overall performance: Update your iPhone or iPad

If an update is available, be sure to create a backup before installing it.

1. Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
4. If you see more than one software update option available, choose the one that you want to install.
5. Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do.

To further isolate the issue, if you have multiple email accounts set up on your iPad, try selecting a different email account to see if the messages go through successfully. This will tell you if the behavior is specific to one account. Here's how: Send email in Mail on iPad

If you have more than one email account, you can specify which account to send email from.

1. In your email draft, tap the Cc/Bcc, From field.
2. Tap the From field, then choose an account.

Regards.
