Apple Music & Sonos App Integration
To make a long story short, Sonos customers are now required to use the Sonos app in order to play Atmos music. Airplay direct from the Apple Music app to Sonos speakers doesn’t support Atmos. The Apple Music integration within the Sonos app leaves a lot to be desired, to say the least. I’ve been told on Sonos support boards that Sonos has no control over the integration, that Apple is required to improve it instead. Is this true? If so, that’s why I’m raising it here. I’ve attached a screenshot of the Sonos app experience with an Apple Music artist page. As a music fan, here is a list of things I’d like to see that are not there:
- Release Dates
- Artist bios
- Artist photos
- Categorize by album / singles / compilations etc
- Most popular songs / albums
- Genres
- Related Artists
- Album descriptions
- Icons to display if songs / albums are in Dolby Atmos or hi res
In addition, there are no scrolling lyrics available, or even static ones.
Are there any plans on Apple’s side to improve the Apple Music UX within the Sonos app? Again, I’ve asked Sonos about this and have been told that it is out of their hands, Apple must do the development work.
