Lost AirTag shows another country as location

On 5th September we boarded a plane from London to Copenhagen. We had a checked in suitcase which had one of our AirTags inside.

The suitcase never arrived and when we checked its location, it was still at the London Gatwick airport. The following days, it showed that it was still there but moved from one side of the airport to another.

Then, its battery showed as low.

Finally, after a week, we saw it at the area of the airport where it was about to get on a plane. Then it went off the radar for some hours, and now, it says it is at Orlando Airport!

We believe this is probably correct and the guys at the London airport made a mistake and sent it to the wrong place.

But now, I am wondering if it could be wrong?

We have never been to US.

Can the AirTag be that wrong?

Both the London Gatwick airport and the Orlando airport are the largest in the world with many passengers going through. Could that have messed with the AirTag with low battery?

I am not clear whether you are interested in the AirTag or the Bag that was misplaced by the Airline.

AirTag is designed to keep going for more than a year on a standard battery you can easily replace. Your iPhone lets you know when itʼs time to pop in a new one. AirTag - Apple (IN)

It's possible that the signal from an AirTag or any other Bluetooth tracking device could be lost in certain areas of an airport. There are several factors that can affect the signal strength and connectivity of Bluetooth devices in an airport setting:

  1. Airports are busy places with a lot of electronic devices and signals in use, such as Wi-Fi networks, cell phones, and other Bluetooth devices. This can lead to signal interference, which may cause temporary disruptions in the connection between your AirTag and your device.
  2. The layout of an airport, including walls, floors, and other physical obstacles, can block or weaken Bluetooth signals. Bags, especially if they are made of materials that attenuate signals (like metal or dense fabrics), can also affect signal strength.
  3. Some airports may have security measures in place to detect and prevent unauthorized Bluetooth or wireless devices from operating within certain areas. While these measures are primarily focused on security threats, they could potentially affect your AirTag's signal.

Ensure your AirTag has sufficient battery life, and be aware of the potential for signal interference in crowded areas like airports.

Thank you but you didn’t provide me with any information I didn’t already know nor answered my question.

I already said that the AirTag is in the suitcase (yes I am interested in getting my lost suitcase back, hence putting an AirTag in there in the first place!).

My question was that how is it that the AirTag is now showing its location at Orlando Airport while none of us has ever been to US. Is it due to its low battery or is it confused because of the number of passengers at the London airport? Is it still in London or is it really in Orlando?
