photos in pages document not exporting to pdf

I have created an 80-page photo book using Pages ver. 13.1. When I export to PDF, choosing the option for "Best image quality," a few of the photos do not get embedded in the PDF. A black rectangle is displayed where the photo should be. I have deleted the photos missing from the PDF in Pages and replaced the photos, then exported again. Again, some photos don't get added to the PDF. Getting frustrated. Here's what the page looks like in the PDF:

Some thoughts.

Update your macOS to Ventura 13.5.2 and export the PDF again. Same result?
Open the PDF exported by Pages in the current version of Adobe Acrobat Reader DC. Are any images still black?

On the Pages Export To : PDF panel, try setting the Advanced Options : Accessibility to Default from On. Did this resolve black images in the PDF in either Preview or Acrobat Reader? If that is a bust, try changing image quality to Better and reassess the PDF content.

If you use Acrobat to open and view the exported PDF, try the following: Go to Edit > Preferences > Accessibility and remove the tick next to "Replace document colors".

I you have chosen a professional printer, verify their submission requirements for your individual images and the type of PDF that contains them.

Thanks Viking. I am running Venture 13.5.2. I have exported the Pages document to PDF using the "Better Image Quality" choice. No, I didn't try to open the PDF in Acrobat Reader. I went back into Pages and replaced all the images that didn't come through and then saved over the previous PDF with the new export. The new export did not fail to embed all the photos this time.

Was the resulting PDF appearance satisfactory when you used "Better" image quality? Do you plan to have the PDF professionally printed?

Viking, I have always set the PDF export to better image quality. I was planning to use this PDF to create a professionally printed photo book. So the file with the problem I was having was exported using the "better image quality" choice.
