Using iPhone Notes...Navigating

I use Notes to make a log (diary) of key activities during the year ; e.g., when car oil was changed, when fertilized the lawn, Dr appointments, income tax forms mailed, etc. A new log for each year. I enter the date and a comment with each entry. There are typically 2 to 4 entries each week. So by this time of the year there is a fairly long listing of entries. When I open the Notes file (List of Stuff: 2023) the file opens to the last entry...just as I would like it to do.

But, and this where I need help, as soon as I touch the screen to begin a new entry, or read a recent entry, the files scrolls to the middle of the file (currently it is entries make in May of 2023). Then I have to scroll back down (several swipes) to the end of the file. (Not the end of the world, but irritating) Why does a single screen touch take me to the middle of file? What am I don't wrong? How to I keep it the file at the end (near the recent entries)?
