iphone 6s, taking photos, strange

I made no changes to any settings…. wasn’t using any third party apps…. I do use icloud.. set to maximize space on the phone so full sizes are kept in icloud…. Basically went like this.. mondays pics from out in the yard all 12MP JPG…. tuesdays pics from out in the yard all 1MP PNG…. wednesdays pics from out in the yard all 12MP JPG…. what could have happened here?

The situation you describe with your iPhone 6s, where some photos are in 1MP PNG format while others are in 12MP JPG format, can be caused by several factors. Here are some possible explanations for this issue:

  1. When your iPhone runs low on storage space, it may automatically switch to capturing photos in a lower resolution or different format to save space. In your case, it seems like the phone switched to capturing photos in the lower resolution PNG format when storage was low.
  2. You mentioned that you use iCloud with the "Optimize iPhone Storage" option enabled. This means that your device will keep smaller, lower-resolution versions of photos on the device to save space while storing the full-resolution versions in iCloud. The device may have decided to optimize some photos by converting them to a lower-resolution format to save space.

To resolve the issue and prevent it from happening in the future:

  1. Ensure that you have sufficient free storage space on your device. Delete unnecessary photos and apps to free up space if needed.
  2. Double-check your iCloud settings to make sure they are set as you want them. If you prefer to keep all photos in full resolution on your device, you may need to change the iCloud settings to "Download and Keep Originals" rather than "Optimize iPhone Storage."
  3. Ensure that your iPhone is running the latest version of iOS. Software updates often include bug fixes and improvements.

If the issue persists and you're unable to determine the cause, you may want to contact Apple Support for further assistance. They can help you troubleshoot and diagnose any potential hardware or software issues with your iPhone.
