tvos17 Sound Issues

Following today’s updates, my Apple TV 4K gen 3 is now suffering from appalling sound quality on Apple TV itself, Apple fitness and the various other streaming apps. My system itself is a Sonos beam and surround speakers and was absolutely perfect with the Apple TV until this update. As before my settings are for Dolby atmos when available. I feel I’ve gone crazy as surely sound must have been tested?? I’ve reset the device, logged back into everything and nope still terrible. Any clues, similar problems or am I alone with this terrible sound issue

Not sure if this relates but found that the tvOS 17 update changed my audio settings within the appletv itself. If particular there is a setting to “Reduce Loud Noises” in the audio settings section that I had turned off previously but it had been re-enabled creating a terrible tinny night theater mode. Why this mode even exists is a mystery and why the update decided it needed to re-enable it is even more perplexing. Anyway I disabled the silly mode again and everything is back to normal.

I’m having similar issues on my Apple TV 4K with my LG C2 and Sonos Beam setup when change formats setting is off allowing Dolby atmos any content in 5.1 consistently cuts out every few seconds making it unwatchable but Dolby atmos is fine however when I disable Dolby atmos my 5.1 audio is completely fine and works as normal it’s only the Apple TV 4K 3rd gen that does this as every other device works perfectly in my setup :(((

Similar audio issues after upgrading to tvOS 17. LG C2 with Sonos Arc + Sonos SL surround + Sonos Sub. Everything worked very well with tvOS 16 with the audio settings set to Atmos when available. Now, with 17, the dialog channel is now sent to the surround speakers when listening to non-Atmos content. Atmos content seems ok. Turning OFF Atmos in the audio settings seems to fix the issue, but is NOT a long-term fix.

Learning my lesson on being an early OS upgrade adopter.

Anyone any further forward with this? I have the same issue with an Apple TV 4K (A2843), LG OLED and Denon AVR, I recently needed to start switching the HDMI sources via the TV rather than the AVR, and to have ATMOS sent through, enabled eARC, this then caused the crackly poor audio on everything from the ATV with a Stereo audio track. I know it is the ATV as the PS5, Cable box etc all pass through Stereo with no issues, again this seems to be related to TVOS 17 - currently running 17.4 (21L227), as it wasn't present before. It seems to be an issue with eARC in particular as connected directly the AVR there are no issues.

I have a similar issue after updating to tvOS 17.

I have an Apple TV 4K 3rd gen. Sonos Arc. LG b2 oled.

The sound on non atmos contents like 5.1 or stereo crackles and the sound is distorted. But on atmos films it’s ok.

But when I turn off eArc on the lg tv the non atmos is ok, but the atmos content only plays as 5.1.

It was ok before the update, I have also reset both the lg tv and Apple TV and no joy.

maybe a issue with the update ?

By way of update - glad it’s not just me!

as a temporary fix for my set up I have an Lag tv, I’ve changed the settings for the eARC to be auto instead of pass through which at least makes everything listenable without the tiny mess or just bad bad quality.

I may also try reinstating my Philips hue sync box to see if that has the same issues (stopped using it as I found that very temperamental of wanting to work)

I guess we just need to wait for a real fix to have the great sound we all expect from our Sonos systems

Has anyone resolved this issue? Our setup is incredibly basic: AppleTV 4K to Projector to stereo analog (projector does this conversion).

Everything was great on TVOS 16 and older, but as of the TVOS 17 update it sounds like the audio is an ultra-compressed low-bitrate MP3. It's absolutely unusable. I have completely eliminated any other item in the configuration from being the source of the issue (dropping in a Roku right where the AppleTV usually sits in the chain produces perfectly fine audio - so it is definitely the AppleTV at fault.)
