I talked to Apple Support. They told me it was simply a "reclassification" as to how storage was used. That is, the category called "system info" was split out and much of the information was now displayed in "synced content". That made no sense to me as the overall storage usage on the device went up. In my case, 6.6 GB. If it was split you would expect the total storage consumption to remain the same. When presented with that question answers became very vague. In short, I don't think customer support understands the issue either.
Same thing for me. And on top of that my notifications alerts only ring if I have the banner on. Which it was not like that before I updated to iOS 17. It messed up my notifications alerts and who knows what else.
The sync data on my iPhone equals the sum total of iOS (17.0.3) storage and System Data Storage. Maybe Tech Support is not that far off in their understanding.
I have the same issue after Comicflow was removed from the app store and I can't delete the content that app used to have after I deleted the app... it stuck with synced content that I can't access through the ipad or the mac
My synced content storage is 35 GB.
I am really annoyed because I think it’s way to try and make you need extra storage so much but they want you to either pay for iCloud or buy a phone or iPad or whatever with a lot more storage. I am not happy whatsoever. Yes another Apple clever money, marketing ploy and I trust this will get resolved. If enough people start to complain, and perhaps they lose sales.. I am for my Apple products, and all of them have suddenly jumped up with invisible storage that I never had before.
It is resolved - synced content and Music no longer show as double counted.
No it’s not fixed! I’m on 17.1.1 and I still have over 100GB of synced content. I only have 1.7GB of music so it’s nothing to do with double accounting!
Yes I agree. It’s not fixed whatsoever. I also checked after the update.
Fixed on my M1 12.9, cellular Mini 6, 14 Pro Max all on 17.1.1. 16GB of music (ripped CDs all) shows only as synched content.
Bottom line - I lost approximately 10% of my storage across three iPhones and three iPads due to this issue.
I consider myself ripped off without an adequate explanation.
I'm hacked off enough to look at different devices including a new PC as all my devices are due for a replacement in the next 12 - 18 months.
Estimated impact will be in excess of $7,000 on Apple.
Not that they will notice.
It's really frustrating isn't it? Problem is that they aren't on their own. I had an awful time with a one plus phone that was eating up storage for no reason. Many customers complained but one plus just turned a blind eye and to my knowledge, never acknowledged that there was a problem.
Hopefully Apple will rectify the issue with an update, sooner rather than later!
It’s total nonsense that we are forced to lose valuable space on our devices unnecessarily, had I know Apple was going to pull this stunt, I would’ve stuck with iOS 16! Thanks for nothing, Apple. An Android phone doesn’t seem so bad all of a sudden.
I have over 101GB of storage which is supposedly data synchronised with my computer. I’ve checked my Mac and can’t see what’s being synchronised.
I’ve checked the internet to try and find out how to de synchronise and nothing really helps as most of the articles are about photos!
I don’t know what to do and am rapidly running out of space on my iPad. Apple aren’t helping or providing advice or updates so what are we to do?
It’s incredibly stupid to lose TWICE the space for half the music. If I can find a 3rd party software that will eliminate this problem once and for all, I’ll do it.
If it were me - and this is a big if - I would back everything up and do a complete system reset and then introduce apps or photos one at a time until I found where the device started behaving strangely.
Someone at Apple knows what's going on and why. Only they're not telling consumers.
