I had the same problem and figured out why my Live Voicemail option wasn’t appearing in my Phone settings. My “Language” was set to English/Australian on my new phone. This is probably because I’d changed my Siri voice to sound Australian on my old phone and that setting transferred over to the new phone (I just like the accent 😊). Once I went to:

Settings/General/Language & Region I saw my current language setting as

“English( Australia)”. I had to click “Add Language” and selected “English”. Now Live Voicemail appears under my Phone settings and Visual Voicemail is functional. I’m not sure why it wasn’t a problem with my IPhone X as visual voicemail worked there. Just happy to have it back!

I see. That’s okay then.

I am perfectly happy with the UK not getting this function, provided Guam and Puerto Rico have also been completely dis-regarded.

I realise the American and Canadian customers are more valued than those of us in Europe and it is only fitting and correct that we should do without this functionality for that reason.

We in Europe need to know our place and not expect to be afforded the same benefits as our American and Canadian counterparts.

I see now that my long relationship with Apple products spanning back to the original iPhone and including just about every product they have ever made, stands for nothing.

Live voicemail would have filled a whole in the dark void inside me where contentment used to reside.

Now I am doomed to a life without this function and wondering where I went wrong and why in the key note speech when we were promised this life changing wonder, it was never mentioned that the rest of the world would not get it.

Given that Guam, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands are part of the U.S., I think they should be quite miffed. Of course, this begs the question... Do the other U.S. territories get this feature? Are American Samoa and Guam more special, more "American"? And what about the Canadian territories? Are they similarly excluded? I sense a conspiracy.

I’m in Canada and am having the same problem. Is it because I’m in Quebec and my cellular provider (Bell) set my voicemail to French? Or because I set the language on my phone to U.K. English because my third grade teacher said we are supposed to use British spelling? Is it my VPN, currently set to Toronto, which is in Canada even if the rest of the country considers Toronto “too American”?

I logged into voicemail, changed the language to English but nothing has changed and when I dialled back into voicemail the directions for all the options were still in French so I think all I did was change the options for incoming calls to English which is OK but only for less than half the people likely to leave me a voice message. I guess I’ll have to call Bell.

I used to have visual voicemail with my carrier and it transcribed text messages in both languages which is how it should be. Most people here speak two or more languages so we need more options.
