iOS 17 Pets feature not working

The new feature in iOS 17 that recognizes pets is not working on any of my devices. I have done the following:

updated all devices to iOS 17
looked for the “people places and pets” section in photos (it just says “people and places”)
tried manually adding a pet. The button that should appear to add a pet doesn’t appear in the bottom left of the photo, despite IOS recognizing there is a cat in the photo.

I have an 11 Pro, but I wouldn’t think this would be the reason.

Perhaps photos needs to index my library for pets and it will show up eventually?

I did some searching online, but didn’t come across anything that would explain this. Any help or insight would be most appreciated!

Sooo… my issue is slightly different. When I go to change my wallpaper I do have a tab called “pets” but it only features photos of my dog! I have over 700 photos of my cats but none of them are in this tab! What on earth.

they do come up when I search for pets in my photo album but they don’t get featured in the wallpapers.

is this a bug?

im on 17.1.2 using an iPhone 11 Pro max

Same here. “people” section in photos just says “people”. no mention of pets. How long are we supposed to wait for this to work? I added a few pet faces but Photos has scanned nothing.

iOS 17 Pets recognition feature was not working on my device. I've done a few fixes to my iPhone. You can try it too!

1. Reindexed the Photos app on my iPhone. Follow the steps: Connect your iPhone to Wi-Fi >>> Charge your iPhone and lock it >>> Leave the iPhone overnight. It will reindex the photos and recognize the people and pets in your images.

2. Reset the people and pets suggestion on my iPhone: Go to Settings >>> Select Photos >>> Scroll down and click on Reset People & Pets Suggestions >>> Select Reset.

3. Also, you can add people and pets manually to your iPhone: Go to Photos App >>> Click on Album Tab >>> Select People & Pets album >>> Scroll down and select Add People option >>> Select the people or Pet you want to add to the album >>> Click on Add button and top right corner of your screen.

UPDATE: Eventually they just started populating. I guess you need to give Photos time. 🐈‍⬛🐕🐾

This feature should not be advertised since it does not work. Even for the people it worked for it doesn't work well. I am a share holder and it ****** me off that this company is now advertising features that are incomplete or in their BETA stage. Quarterly earnings are going depend on the products not the promises.
