iOS 17 Default Notification Sound has changed

Why did Apple unilaterally change my default notification sound from tri-tone to Rebound? I suffer from hearing loss and can no longer hear the notification sound. Why can’t the iPhone user control what sounds are used for their notifications? Much like Pavlov’s dogs responding to a bell, for as long as I have used an iPhone, I have been able to hear the notification sound and know what it was notifying me about without looking. Now Apple just decides on its own to change the sound while preventing users from setting their own notification sounds. That is so self-righteous of Apple to assume they know what sounds users want or need to hear.

Unnecessary change is not always better. It doesn’t improve the user experience, it now just makes it silent for me. Please allow users to select what sound to set for notifications.

How do I change it back to TriTone? I can’t hear Rebound? This is maddening. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Apple invite submission of constructive comment and feature requests via its Product Feedback portal.

If you would like to offer objective critique, or would like to request additional flexibility of iPad settings in a future release, this would be the most appropriate channel through which to make your views known to Apple:

Feedback - iPad - Apple

Why we need to do a feedback? Why not asking the consumer what they like? Why not read or listen what people said about the issues in which people are complaining. Why Apple have to wait a long period of time to fix things up. Why not repair it right away? This rebound sound is way too low for the notifications, can you guys (Apple) tell us how to fix it?

When I went back into my app settings it had switched app refresh back ‘on’, do yourself a favor and turn ‘off’ background refresh on all your apps it drains your battery it searches for new updates to that app in the background it does this several times per day and also uses data so if you’re on a data plan it will use it up quickly.

yeah I also struggle to hear, and now I’m struggling to know which app is notifying me, I also feel like the vibrations have been lighter feeling, where I work it’s nice to know who’s messaging, it’s so annoying they changed it and we can’t change it all, they need to let us have control over how loud our sounds are, what they sound like, and how strong the vibrations is, I’m so ****** off and annoyed at Apple for this new update.

Why provide feedback via the Product Feedback portal? Simple... Apple are not here.

Other than the Site Moderators, Apple neither monitor nor participate within this user-to-user technical forum. Complaining here will achieve nothing. Nobody here can fix the issue of which you (and others complain).

It began with the update for my ipad ISO 17.1.1. I only noticed that it

affected my security camera app's notifications sound on the iPad initially

(early October 2023). The default sound went from the Tri-tone sound to

something that is BARELY AUDIBLE. I searched and searched and finally

discovered through my searching the sound is called "Rebound".

My iphone SE was just updated (11/10/2023) to 17.1.1 yesterday and just like

the ipad the default sound for apps other than my security app have also

changed with Apple's default Tri-tone to Rebound sound. Why would apple change

the default to something that the consumer has relied on for years without

offering a solution to revert their change from Tri-tone to Rebound? I have

noted that outer apps sound is also affected thus producing the same sound as

default.

Myself, like a few others here have come to rely on that sound to awaken or

alert us for numerous reasons. I too am not 20 something and i appreciate a

vibrant and distinct sound that Tri-tone offers. Apples choice to replace

Tri-tone with Rebound is a vulnerability to the loyal consumers of Apple

product because it places us in jeopardy and in harm’s way and since it's

Apple's choosing of the default Rebound tone.

Example:

Security app: The app is configured to produce notifications pushed to my

apple devices, the default sound has been changed by Apple to Rebound which is

some super quite barely audible sound, especially when awake, it can't awaken

anyone from a sleep. If there is an intruder or a intrusion that the cameras

detect, I will no longer hear the notification to be alerted as early as

possible. That puts me and my family at a very real risk of intrusions or

circumstances that could potentially put our lives at risk.
