iOS 17 Default Notification Sound has changed

Why did Apple unilaterally change my default notification sound from tri-tone to Rebound? I suffer from hearing loss and can no longer hear the notification sound. Why can’t the iPhone user control what sounds are used for their notifications? Much like Pavlov’s dogs responding to a bell, for as long as I have used an iPhone, I have been able to hear the notification sound and know what it was notifying me about without looking. Now Apple just decides on its own to change the sound while preventing users from setting their own notification sounds. That is so self-righteous of Apple to assume they know what sounds users want or need to hear.

Unnecessary change is not always better. It doesn’t improve the user experience, it now just makes it silent for me. Please allow users to select what sound to set for notifications.

How do I change it back to TriTone? I can’t hear Rebound? This is maddening. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

When I went back into my app settings it had switched app refresh back ‘on’, do yourself a favor and turn ‘off’ background refresh on all your apps it drains your battery it searches for new updates to that app in the background it does this several times per day and also uses data so if you’re on a data plan it will use it up quickly.

I found this “work around” solution (from a fellow Arlo Security System user) helpful, although you do have to pay $ to subscribe to the IFTTT app but, for the security of my aged parent, I think it’s worth it.

“IOS users there is a solution to better notifications - There is a way to receive a phone call when the Arlo security is triggered. This uses the IFTTT app (if this then that' automation app) - took me 5 minutes to set up and it works great.

  • download IFTTT app from appstore and register
  • open app
  • select 'create' - this will start the creation of the applet (automation process)
  • next to 'if this', select 'add'
  • in search bar type “arlo” and select your trigger
  • select ' create' trigger'
  • next to 'then that' select 'add
  • in search bar type 'voip' and select 'Voip calls'
  • select 'call my device'
  • select 'create action'

that's it! make sure your ARLO security system is armed for this to work.

you need to create a separate applet for each device that is armed”

The IFTTT app has a seven day free trial. So, you too might find this helpful.

Apple invite submission of constructive comment and feature requests via its Product Feedback portal.

If you would like to offer objective critique, or would like to request additional flexibility of iPad settings in a future release, this would be the most appropriate channel through which to make your views known to Apple:

Why we need to do a feedback? Why not asking the consumer what they like? Why not read or listen what people said about the issues in which people are complaining. Why Apple have to wait a long period of time to fix things up. Why not repair it right away? This rebound sound is way too low for the notifications, can you guys (Apple) tell us how to fix it?

One of the best problem solvers I subscribe to on YouTube when it comes to updates is this guy Idevice.help .

I’ve been a subscriber to his channel for years when I had a problem with my battery draining that’s how I learned about background refresh, you might want to check him out.

I have hearing aids but as any one knows, I don’t have them in while sleeping…I could Not, for the life of me figure out why

I would sleep through my alarm of the morning and through the day as well UNTIL I was actually awake when it sounded through the day. It’s NO WONDER why I slept through the alarm…. I CAN BARELY HEAR THE “Radial” alert (default on alarms now) WITH my hearing aids!

PUT THE DEFAULT BACK TO “RADAR” WHY WOULD APPLE CHANGE THINGS LIKE THIS-NOT ONLY DUE TO THE HARD HEARING-BUT AS WELL, as a persons brain is “trained” for sounds especially after such a long time.

I have always have Siri set my alarms for convenience and don’t even have to touch the phone.

NOT HAPPY!

i DISLIKE the new iOS with passion. I can’t change notifications sounds anymore and all my notifications sound like the phone is hanging up. It’s so annoying as I also like to know what app the notification sound I set for is notifying me. This is one of the worst updates by Apple. 👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾 big thumbs down

Yes. Check your Screen Brightness level after any upgrade. Go To: Settings > Display & Brightness > brightness slider-bar.

After the most recent upgrade, Mine was set to something like 2/3's to the right... I pushed back down to about 40% or so. Seems to have helped a good bit...
