After iOS 17.2.1 the whole notifications cocktail involving the iPhone and Apple Watch is a complete disaster, utter shambles. I receive an SMS yet I get NO notification sound AT ALL on either the phone or the watch and no visible indication that I have received an SMS either, nothing, I literally have no idea I have received a message unless I open the app! Nothing on the watch and nothing / no badge on the phone. Yet I can open up Messages on the watch or the phone and can see them all sat there, unread. What's the point of having these insanely expensive devices if they can't even perform the most basic phone functions? This will be the last Apple purchase for me. Sure Android has its problems but Apple is total shambles at the moment! I get the feeling Apple is trying to be way more clever than it actually is, trying to link and mirror too many things and when the wheel comes off it comes off big time, and takes way to long to put back on!!!

Can you get notifications on the phone while wearing your watch?
Here's how notifications work if you're wearing an Apple Watch:
iPhone locked/watch locked - notifications sound on iPhone
iPhone unlocked/watch locked - notifications sound on iPhone
iPhone locked/watch unlocked - notifications sound on watch
After updating my phone to the newest IOS 17, when I get messages from someone it doesn't tell me who texted me. Instead when I get a message it just says notification so, I tried switching my settings hoping it would resolve the issue but it didn't. I called apple about the issue, but they weren't able to give me an answer as to why this is happening. Before the update, when I got messages they'd appear on my lock screen and it would say, for example, "Mom" letting me know I got a text from that person. Even when my phone is unlocked and the banner pops down it doesn't give me the persons name.

Go to Settings>Notifications>Messages and set "Show Previews" to "Always".
Having same issue with my iPhone 12 Pro. All notifications from apps stopped sometime last week when it updated to iOS 17.1.2. Checked all settings, reset phone to factory default settings and still no notifications from apps. I get text and phone call notifications but that’s it. No banners, no numbers on app icons, nothing. Help!!!!

I did both of the IOS 17 updates and now I’m not getting notifications for iMessage or calls. I have tried restarting my phone and verified that notifications are turned on. Other notifications are working for other apps
This is insane. I have a 14 Pro Max and a 14 Plus and I am getting the same on both devices. I tried the Focus trick, I tried resetting all the settings etc. So for Teams, Slack, Discord, etc no notifications no matter what I set the settings to, outlook either. Extremely frustrating. Anyone find a solution?
Just my 2 cents worth. I spent a while in a chat with Apple this morning, they didn't know what the fix was either. But just one thing on the list of things we checked, worked. Well for me anyway. Brand new iphone 15 and ios 17.2
settings> face id & passcode <scroll down and disable the button beside Attention Aware Features. Who knew something so obscure would muck up everyone's settings?
Point to note, notifications are now working AND working with non native apple tones. Hope this helps someone out.
I have mine set to default and now after the latest update, my phone will randomly make a text noise. I haven’t changed any settings and now it’s going right back to the same. 🤦🏼♀️

I have solved this issue for me and my wife. We both have Apple Watches and all it took, after months of trying to find a solution, was to open the watch app and check the “send to Notification Center “ under Messages. I still haven’t figured out how to get Notifications on my watch and phone, but, at least it works on the phone again when the phone is locked.
I tried this on iPhone 12 pro. Go to settings > general > iPhone storage > select the app with the problem > offload app > delete app. Reinstall and notifications started working. Hope it helps.
Finally solved this for my Mom!!! After checking ALL the settings, she still had this issue.
Make sure that you don't have Hide Alerts turned on for the person/conversation. In Messages on ur phone, long-press on the conversation (from the "Messages" screen) and look for Show Alerts. If you see it, select it to show alerts. If you see Hide Alerts instead, then you're good just leave it as-is because you don't want to hide their alerts.
For some reason I wasn't receiving notifications on Messages from my Mom and vice versa. Neither of us recalls intentionally hiding alerts from each other. However, this was the culprit. I hope this helps someone. May you be in peace ❤️
updated to 17.2.1 and now receiving no text notifications.
i have rebooted phone, done hard reset and then Reset All Settings.
volume at max
not in focus mode.
toggle switch is switched on (not silent).
checked settings in Notifications and in Messages.
essentially i don't have Messages because i don't know if someone texts me unless i open my phone and check.
v sad

I don't know if anyone can help me but I would truly appreciate any advice any of you can provide. I have an iPhone 14 Pro and my custom ringtones work fine, the custom alert for my messages also works as well. I have a sports app (CBS Sports App) that has no assigned alert tone and despite updating to iOS 17.2, the alert tone for the CBS Sports App went from a default "bell ping" to just a "mechanical sounding clunk" which is not very loud.
I have no idea what else to do, and I have spoken to Apple about it but what we tried together did not work. I know that this is not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things, but when you pay a lot for a phone you expect it to work the way you want.
If there is anyone who can offer some detailed "step-by-step" advice I would be very grateful. Thanks in advance!
I had the same issues and tried lot of things mentioned here and there and nothing worked. Till I tried the following:
Go to Sittings
Messages
Allow messages to access
Focus (un-click)
Then I now get sms messages normally like before the update.
