Hi - can anyone please let me know why buying the iPhone on line excludes customers from joining the upgrade programme? When you buy on line you are no longer eligible for the upgrade programme? Thanks
You have posted to a user to user forum. We cannot explain Apple’s’ decisions. You could try contacting Apple directly. Tap Support at the top or bottom of the page.
Buying a phone online is completely different from the Upgrade Program if you joined that program.

I appreciate your answer but the current process to join the UP is limited to those go have access to a store, for some this could be a long journey to an Apple shop - especially for those who may be physically challenged, I do hope Apple can change this - kind regards
Like Carol B suggests then you need to ask Apple. Your original question just asked why you couldn't order online to be in the upgrade program. They are simply completely different ways to get a new iPhone.
