AppleTV, Users, Settings, and Parental Controls

I am a little confused on restrictions and adding different Users to Apple TV? Is there a way to force a user to enter a PIN when Apple TV starts up or wakes from sleep? Similar to what Plex and Amazon.app do?

It seems that the default user is always logged in - as a parent who doesn't want restrictions for himself but does want the restrictions chosen in Screen Time settings to apply to their children when they watch Apple TV this is very confusing.

I would think it would work like this:

Open or Turn on Apple TV - it asks which user and requests a PIN for that user.

That user's personal settings stored locally or in iCloud (Screen Time or otherwise) are in force.

Finished

How it appears to work:

Turn on Apple TV and it opens to whatever user account was active before it was turned off or went to sleep - the "Default user". ( This means kids can watch whatever content the Default user (parent) has set to watch). There doesn't appear to be a way to "sign out".

So how do I force my kids to use the settings I have chosen for them while watching TV on the Apple TV?

Creating a very restricted generic user requires creating a new Apple User account? What if I have a 4 year old and an 17 year old in the house. Doesn't seem far to the 17 year old.

AFAIK there is no solution. Apple has decided that this is an open resource for everyone that has keys to the house.

I am totally stuck on this too. I have just got my 3 kids iPads and have managed to restrict them on there, but on the Apple TV I have to either restrict myself to 9 year old shows or let them have access to all my stuff. I really don’t want them watching American History X!

like you said, each user needs a PIN code and the ability for a parent to configure the restrictions accordingly or Apple TV understands from their profile the restrictions set on parental features. Very bad!!!

It’s kinda annoying. It seems that parental controls are Unit Based and not User Based. So when you turn them on, it blocked everything for all users. Even when you switch user to an adult’s profile, it will have all the restrictions. When you turn off restrictions, then it is off for everyone. When you switch back to the child profile, you have to go through the entire settings one by one. What is the point of having a quick access button the control panel if it doesn’t do a simple action of turn on and off quickly at least?

Apple doesn't read here in this user-to-user forum for feedback or suggestions. You can, however, let them know your thoughts here:
