If I create an Apple ID for my child, will we still be using the same ICloud storage?

My ICloud storage is getting full because I signed in to my kids phones(2) with my Apple ID. If I create their own but through the family sharing, will they have their own ICloud storage?

iPhone 14 Pro, iOS 16

Yes, you can enable and use the same iCloud+ Storage, when Family Sharing is enabled.

Each user’s storage contents are maintained separately and privately, but (when enabled) the available iCloud+ storage is pooled and shared.

Here is how to share your storage: Share iCloud+ with your family - Apple Support

Or not… Users can also have their own iCloud+ storage plans if that is preferred (or the iCloud+ sharing can be disabled, leaving each Family Sharing member with 5 GB), and those are entirely separate from Family Sharing; private files, private storage usage, and no sharing of the available storage.

More importantly here, you really do not want to share an Apple ID. That gets very tangled, far beyond iCloud+ storage. Don’t do that. Among other wrinkles, passwords and logins are shared. Get the scions their own Apple IDs, and set up Family Sharing.

No. They will have their own iCloud storage. This is because Apple IDs cannot be merged.

For thought...

Download All of iCloud:

Save a Few: If you wanted to, rather than getting new Apple IDs, you could export all of iCloud onto an external disk, trash iCloud storage, and then start iCloud anew.  Read my User Tip for moreGetting a Quick and Direct "iCloud Drive-to-External Hard Drive" Download - User Tip
