Hi missmorgannlemon,

Please contact the school in question and ask them to release the Mac from Apple School Manager. That service can instruct the Mac to automatically enrol in the school's MDM solution at setup time even if the Mac is erased and reset.

Once the Mac is released from Apple School Manager, erase it and set up as new:

Use Disk Utility to erase an Intel-based Mac - Apple Support (CA)

How to reinstall macOS - Apple Support (CA)

Unfortunately, there's a high likelihood that if you purchased your Mac from a third party, and that third party wasn't the school in question, the Mac was probably stolen. You might want to check with local law enforcement to see if anyone reported the Mac as missing or stolen.
