AirPrint not working after iOS 17 Update

AirPrint was working on ios16 using a Canon printer connected to my home WiFi. I recently updated to ios17 and the printer shows up as an available printer but shortly disappears after selecting it. I am able to print on iPad os 16 and my MacBook Air on Ventura using AirPrint. I’ve reset network setting on both router iPhone and printer and I am still encountering same behavior. Does anyone have any idea on how to fix it or if it is a known bug in ios17? I’ve also restarted my phone and tested it on my partners iPhone which shows same behavior on ios17.

I have the same issue with Canon MF240 and no security software installed on my iPhone and iPad. Just updated to iOS 17.0.1 . The printer name shows up for a while and then disappears! I can print from my computer. I didn’t have this issue until before updating to iOS 17. Please fix this problem, it’s really annoying.

I have the same experience with all my iOS devices. I use an Epson ET-8500 and has been a great computer. I called Epson and got bumped up a couple of layers in their supports system but they could not solve the problem and threw back in Apple's lap. Very frustrating. I used to wait a while before updating operating systems but for a few years now there haven't been any major problems so I didn't worry about it. I am not going to update my MacBook Air until Epson takes the next step.

There seems to be a common denominator that the firmware of the printer is more often the culprit. Epson seems to be avoiding the issue and I find it extremely frustrating that Apple is not taking a position on this, at leas as far as the forums are concerned.

not a very good customer loyalty position to take. At this point Apple and epson are taking the position that i have to ditch my loyal printer because they can’t get their acts together. As a Nac user since about 1990 I am very dissatisfied.

Same issue here - have narrowed it down to just iOS17.0.1 and Samsung/Brother printers. Sadly mine doesn't have a firmware update (As it's been handed to HP and they basically dropped all the Samsung devices they inherited)

NB Epson Airpirnt works fine from iOS17.0.1 or from MacOS Sonama to both Epson and Samsung. Similarly devices on iOS 15 or 16 all works fine too.

Apple please look at this as it's a real pain.

Since the upgrade to iPad iOS 17 my iPad has been unable to print to my Kyocera laser printer which it did before the upgrade, my iPhone 8 which is still on iOS 16 still prints to the Kyocera Printer.

My MacBook Air M2 will also not print to the Kyocera, both iPad and laptop will however install the driver and print to the Canon

Both the MacBook and the iPad will see the printer on the network as an air printer but after installation will not print.  I have tried without success installing Kyocera as a network printer using the IP address.

All devices are on the same network.

when will apple get a fix for this issue, have spoken to apple tech support and they are denying it’s an iOS issue, rather an issue for the printer manufacturer to sort. Not good enough Apple I’m not spend good catch on a new laser because your software updates are flawed.

You may find if you have older printer (like mine) you won’t get a firmware update. My Kyocera is still listed as a supported AirPrint device on the apple website.

For those with Kyocera printers, I did find a work around. You need to download the Kyocera iOS app, (App Store) you can then scan your network, the app will find any Kyocera printers and you can use the app to print documents. It’s not elegant but it’s a workaround. Don’t expect anything soon from Apple.

i have also found a way to make Kyocera AirPrint printers work with Ventura, if you have an issue with this (I did for ages) let me know.

Re your when are we going to get a fix, probably depends on how much leverage the printer manufacturers put on apple, if you are running older printers maybe apple will just take them off the supported printer list, which will mean investing in a new printer, everyone happy apart from the end user. Both of my printers are on the supported AirPrint list, but only one works with iOS 17. I don’t run a VPN, that’s not the issue for sorting my problem.
