My 4TB WD passport drive - MS-DOS (Fat) that I have had for about 2 years suddenly stopped mounting on my 2015 Macbook Pro but WORKS FINE on a one-year-old iMac. Neither NFTS for Mac nor Apple Disk Utility will mount it. Restarting the computer has not worked. Using a different USB port has not worked. Other USB external drives to the same Macbook Pro mount and work fine. Why is this happening? How do I fix this?

input/output error sounds generic, but is actually VERY specific.

I/O error is caused when Bad Blocks are encountered on a drive, and re-reading with the drive's error correction up to 1,000 times did not yield correctable data.

From the report you posted the boot blocks are in a Bad Block, and if you do not have an adequate backup, your Volume and all the files on it are lost.

If you have a way to get the files off this drive, and copied to another drive, I recommend you do so as soon as possible.

From the information I could find on FAT, its is a floppy disk format intended for Volumes under 32 M Bytes in total size, and your setup is a time bomb waiting to blow up in your face.

If you want to use something like this, a little better grounded in reality, AFTER you copy all the files off it, reformat the drive as exFAT.
