can't login with correct apple id / password

My apple ID already logged on MBP2019 shows that some information might need to be updated. So I clicked but nothing happened. Then I logged out this Apple ID on MBP. Then it comes up with failure of Apple ID login onto my MBP.

I can make 100% sure that I typed correct Apple ID and password, can it can pass verification in first place (otherwise it reminds me you typed wrong password). Then nothing happens and it goes back to the home page of Apple ID in System Setting, waiting for you to type in the Apple ID again.

My Apple ID can be normally used on iCloud.com and everything looks normal, and this Apple ID is normally used on my iPhone without issue.

I double that something is wrong in the MacOS on my MBP but have no clue what.

I really impacts my work because this MBP is for working purpose only.

Any clue that I can login to my Apple ID on this MBP? I tried many many methods, nothing worked.

I always disabled TimeMachine because I never encountered such issue which require restore or re-install during years of using MacOS. And since this is my laptop for working purpose, I will never risk to do that when I'm not fully aware of the impact.

I also tried such way to remove the MBP from my devices via either iCloud (web) or iPhone, and redo the step, hoping there's something wrong at server side. Didn't work either, it still appears like the issue is within the MBP locally.

Better that you can have more information why I tried logout, it's something like this:

  1. Before last week, nothing is wrong in terms of the Apple ID, on whatever apple devices I have.
  2. Last weekend I used my Apple Store app on iPhone to pre-order new iPhone15, so I updated my delivery address using iPhone14 PM, and pre-order succeeded.
  3. This week I found that there's information on my MBP about the AppleID, something like that your information is not updated (red exclamation mark). So I clicked some hints hoping to get the latest information, nothing happened. Meantime, my TouchID also doesn't work on MacOS (worked earlier); and in System Setting, everytime I enabled the touch ID option after typing correct MacOS password, it goes back to Disabled again, I tried several times; I also guess the not-up-to-date Apple ID login might be the reason of MBP Touch ID not working. So I'm wondering how about completely logging out from MacOS and re-login. That's why I did it
  4. I also removed all related keychain of MacOS about all apple ID related credentials, not worked as well
  5. There's another issue very similarly but not in Apple ID's area. My Microsoft Office on MacOS has similar issue logging to OneDrive, I used MS Authenticator or directly password, it re-pops up again and again even if I'm 100% sure I typed / selected correct password / auth-code. I'm strongly doubting that some back-end applications which are responsible for managing the authentication/authorization, are broken/corrupted

I also googled many posts but what I got is only usual ways of debugging, and I tried all of them, failed.

Thanks for your attention. Don't know if from server side, if you are able to see my Apple ID data and see if there's anything wrong?

Thanks... I know the importance of data backup, and key data are already backed up to other storages as routine task. This time I just think it's not worthwhile to restore/re-install especially when I have a lot of job related applications installed/configured, and still would like to find the root cause. I'll try other means.

Thanks for your information and help.

You're welcome 🙂

If you choose to use Time Machine to create backups on an external drive at your place, you will have completely control over your data, nobody else will.

Time Machine saved me more than once in the past from having to starting all over again.

Reinstalling macOS will not delete any other personal data and might be an option.
