Rechargeable external Battery issue

When I connect my external battery to my iPod touch 3G, the internal speaker doesn't work and I have to connect my ear set to hear any alarms or any song. When I disconnect the external battery, everything works fine.. what is the problem?

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.4)
