Is Apple supporting. "TotalAV" ?

The ad says "TotalAV has long protected internet users with enterprise-level security, and with the recent increases in online scams & fraud, they have produced a full-featured protection suite for Mac’s which is now available to the public… for only $3!!!

The app will scan your Mac PC (and even Smartphone) for hidden malwarecheck the dark web to see if your information has been breached, remove all website tracking cookiesremove adwarespyware and viruses."

I am interested if Apple thinks it is good. I currently use Malwarebytes on advise of an apple support person.

Do not install third party anti virus apps. They use system resources while providing no benefit. And they may cause problems. Your Mac has built-in security.

That is a very amusing quote. “Mac PC”? 🤣

What to do? I use the built-in anti-malware. Which so far has also been able to keep errors in the add-on anti-malware from corrupting macOS, for those running add-on anti-malware. This based on some postings around here.

What are the downsides of running add-in anti-malware? Some of the better-known anti-malware has also been caught selling private data too, and I’d be surprised if other vendors were not selling that data. Various of the add-ons have also blocked stuff or corrupted stuff (that’s getting less common, as the built-in anti-malware is blocking more of that), or consumed resources unnecessarily. And ~all of it is way too chatty for my preferences, as part of self-justification and up-selling.

Ponder this: add-on anti-malware has long tied itself into an operating system like malware has done, and the built-in anti-malware is variously detecting (and blocking) anti-malware that id itself acting like malware.
