why do I have to pay a monthly fee to access my library?

My iPod barely holds a charge anymore so I wanted to access my iTunes library on my Android, but it seems i have to pay Apple 11 bucks a month for the privilege of listening to stuff I already paid for. Is there a workaround or is this just a cynically naked cash grab?

Neither. You simply are not understanding what you are actually seeing.

The Android Music App, allows access to the Apple Music subscription service. If you don't already subscribe to it, paying for it, won't let you access your music on it at all. The Subscription service offers access to Apple's extensive music catalog for a monthly fee. Much like any other subscription service, such as Spotify, Amazon Music, Youtube Music etc.... No more cash grabs than those services.

If you already subscribe to it, and your music exists on a computer, you can use the iCloud Music Library option, and access your library in the Android Music App. But its just one option.

You can transfer music you own from iTunes or the Music App on a computer to your Android device directly by simply dragging and dropping the files onto the Android device however it is set to do so.

If your music is only available on the iPod, then you will need to extract it from there first.

Wrong, I already gave you an alternative that does not require a subscription.

As such, it IS a cash grab, as I don't own any music on those other platforms you mentioned and can in fact listen to most if not all of them for free

Also wrong. those platforms require a subscription for you to listen to music form them. They are not free and never have been.

if I so choose. I'm not looking to stream anything on Apple Music other than what is already in my iTunes library. I also don't pay for iCloud. I'm just looking for a way to take music I already own on the go.

Then don't subscribe to Apple Music. Its unnecessary.

I don't know about you, but I've always had Macs and Androids and Androids and Macs don't get along. If you have step by step directions for how to drag and drop from the Mac to an Android that the Mac refuses to recognize and thus does not appear anywhere to drag and drop to, I'm all ears.

Not true, If one knows what one is doing, it works fine. Never had any issue when transfering music to my Mother's Android phone from my Mac.

The Android device should appear in the Finder and you can move music files from the Music folder on your Mac to the Android phone.

I ran across the first part of this issue that's being discussed on this thread and decided to look into it. What I think user danvsyou was trying to point out is that on a non-apple device such as an android when you download the apple music app, there isn't an option where you can access your iTunes library, Even when you sign in with your apple id. At least that how it appears from his comments and from what I am personally seeing.

From your comments, am I to assume that because the music apps are subscription based, that I have to port my music as I would an MP3? Or is there a way to access my iTunes library within the apple music app without paying an apple music subscription?
