touchpad not working on new magic keyboard

I just bought a new magic keyboard for my mac pro... and I cannot seem to get the keyboard to acknowledge it has a touchpad to even setup the touchpad for use?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.12

It’s new. It should work. Contact Apple Support.

Use the Support link in the lower left corner of this webpage, and chat or call as available.

Also, within 14 days of a purchase from Apple, a full refund is available.
