Pet damage
Two months ago, I bought a 2020 MacBook Air with 8Ram and 256 GB (?). The numbers are right, but I’m not sure that I got the terminology correct. It was on sale for $1200 Canadian (tax included). One month in with my beautiful new computer, and my little dog jumps on my desk and ‘marks’ it. I didn’t realize it, as I guess most of it got into computer.
The Apple store said it had liquid damage and the logic board and screen would need replacing, with a total cost of $1200.
So then, I took it to my certified Apple guy, who suggested his guy could clean the logic board, costing $260. I said great! But now, he says the whole top part of the computer (screen) needs to be replaced, as it got wet too and shorted. He cleaned the logic board in an electrostatic bath and says it’s fine. The total cost of the repair would be $791, taxes included.
So, the question is.... should I get it repaired or just buy a new computer? I will save $400 by repairing it, but i’m worried that other things will go wrong because of the original damage and it will not be warrantied by Apple anymore. And no, when my son ordered it for me, he did not get AppleCare. I have asked everyone that I know and have gotten mixed answers, as expected.
Thank you for any advice you can offer!!
