Favorites in WatchOS10

Is there any way to restore favorites to the side button or in any way? It's really a step back eliminating the favorites menu.

I have found that using the "Smart Stack" as described in Use the Smart Stack to show timely widgets on Apple Watch provides a suitable replacement for "Favorites."

"Add, remove, and rearrange widgets

The Smart Stack includes a default set of widgets, which you can manually add, remove, and rearrange. Just scroll down from the watch face, touch and hold the Smart Stack, then do any of the following:

  • Add a widget: Tap +, then tap a featured widget or tap an app that appears below All Apps. Some apps offer more than one widget.
  • Remove a widget: Tap .
  • Pin and unpin widgets: Tap  on the right side of the widget. The pinned widget appears below the last pinned widget in the Smart Stack. To move that widget to the top of the stack, unpin widgets above it by tapping  on the right side of each widget.

Tap Done when you’re finished editing the Smart Stack."

I've played with it but it's not the same really. I just need a nice tight list of 5-6 apps that I use all the time like I had with the dock/favorites before. The annoying thing about the Smart Stack is the top half of the screen is eaten up with what is essentially the same information as what I have on my watch face. If I switch from my watch face to a list to go somewhere else, why on earth would it be helpful to display the time and date again?
