Accessing Control Center after upgrade to WatchOS10

in WatchOS10 - accessing the control center is from the side button. It only worked once since i upgraded Apple Watch 5. When i press the side button, it either doesn't do anything, or launches SOS contact screen. Can the access be done anywhere else? This is the most i use my watch for [pinging my phone, flashlight screen, DND, etc], and it's so frustrating :(

Did you already force restart your Apple Watch after the update?

Press and hold the Digital Crown and the Side Button together for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again.

On my Apple Watch 5, I need to press the Side button just quickly, to open the Control Center.

Pressing it longer will bring up the Emergency option.
