media outside of LIBRARY

I mistakenly created a library and did not choose the "save media to library" which has always been my standard workflow. So is there a way to place the media in the perspective folders into the library? I do not like operating with the folders and media not in the library. Bro sure how to go about this. Most videos focus on how to and why to use the 2 options. I want to get the media into the library after the fact and after the project has been started. is it possible? Again, I AM NOTICING THIS AFTER I CREATED THE LIBRARY AND WAS OEPNING IT UP TODAY. I ALWAYS HAD MY DEFAULT SET AT LEAVE MEDIA IN LIBRARY. DID SOMETHING HAPPEN WITH THE LATEST UPDATE TO CHANGE THESE SETTINGS?

THIS IS THE 3RD PROJECT NOW THAT I AM NOTICING THAT IT HAS HAPPENED TO. SORY FOR CAPS.

In FCPX's browser, select the Library.

Verify via the Inspector > Storage Locations you are set for "In Library."

Click the "Consolidate" button just below that.

Open Background Tasks window and wait for it all to copy to the Library.

Now, bear in mind that there are TWO import settings that operate independent of each other.

1- What you set when you open the Import window itself.

2- Settings > Import, which dictates what happens when you Drag-And-Drop from a Finder window into FCPX. I bet this is what tripped you up.

Interesting, they're not independent for me; I tested and one changes the other both ways, in 10.6.9 at least.

I have yet to test this in 10.6.9, but in previous versions, as far as I can remember, if I change the setting in the Import window it would NOT change the default in the preferences. If it doing it now, I consider it a bug.

The default is used when you drag and drop, and will be the er... default also when you use the import window, but it can be changed for each particular import. That ought not to change the default if you drag and drop - but perhaps it may persist in the import window from one import to the next.

It'll even change the keywords "From Finder tags" and "From folders" too. At least for me just now in 10.6.9. I even tried different ways to close the windows with clicking the widgets and keyboard Command W to see if that made any difference.

It's interesting too, I just noticed that in Settings it's phrased "Copy to library storage location" but in the Media Import window its just "Copy to library."

Yes, I see the same thing.

The last part makes sense, though. In the preferences, the wording is generic and applies whether that location is "in Library" or somewhere else. In the Import window it is specific to the actual library that you are importing to; and it changes according to the library settings: for example, if you change the media location to Movies, it will then say "Copy to Movies".
