StandBy Mode prompting for password instead of showing photos

Hey guys, the reason is because you have blocked the access to widgets from the “allow access when locked”. Go to settings/ faceID & password, and then navigate through the settings to unblock it.

Just sharing in case others are still having issues. Based on comments in this thread, I discovered all you need to do is swipe up or down on each side of your screen, while viewing the standby screen, and the standby screen will cycle through the options you can view on your device. I hope this works with you as well!

This issue is solved: Actually this is an UI problem. If you swipe your screen to left(right), you will see the clock. This is just the first default screen is password screen.

If UI designer gives an small arrow to indicate that it can be swipe left/right, there will be no such issue.

Same issue, although it happened last night for the first time. For me it shows the FaceID icon waiting for me to auth. I rotated the phone, unlocked it but it entered that state again. When I woke up this morning, screen was still on that mode... no clock or anything, but screen to use FaceID or enter password to unlock.

This happened for me too! In middle of night it was showing some creepy photo which doesn’t exist in my library and was asking to unlock ! Before that it showed bright red color time on lock screen. I haven’t turned anything on ! Any ideas how to turn it off ?

Having the exact issue. It was working fine on 17.0 but after 17.1, I have this issue.

Exact same issue here with iOS 17.0.3, if unlocked it works fine but after some seconds it locks out and hides the data. Is this a bug or I have a security feature enabled somewhere?

Exactly the same thing. The first screen doest work, though other work.

Same issue. I can’t access my HomeKit buttons on my standby mode without unlocking the phone 1st. It’s extremely annoying because it was working fine at first.

Nope. Mine isn’t blocked. Double checked. Still not working properly.

Thank you, I couldn't fully us all the standby mode screens, this has bugged me for a couple of months and now you have solved it for me.

Nope. Mine are all set to use and I'm getting the same thing. For what it's worth, it was working perfectly until today. I don't think I recently did an upgrade.
