StandBy Mode prompting for password instead of showing photos

When my phone is in standby mode, the fullscreen photos screen always just shows the keyboard and a password field (asking me to authenticate). Seems like it won't show any photos unless the device is unlocked (which it usually isn't, when it's charging). I checked for any lock screen privacy settings relating to photos but found none. Any ideas on how I can get this to work? The screenshot I shared doesn't show the keyboard for some reason, but it's there.

If I enter the password, or use Face ID (which is odd because the phone is sideways, and it doesn't recognize me unless I rotate either the device or my head), it will show the photos, but as soon as the screen dims, it locks again.

Help!

Same issue, although it happened last night for the first time. For me it shows the FaceID icon waiting for me to auth. I rotated the phone, unlocked it but it entered that state again. When I woke up this morning, screen was still on that mode... no clock or anything, but screen to use FaceID or enter password to unlock.

LAst night was the first time it happened
