Wi-fi stopped working after upgrading to iOS 17.0.1

I am having trouble with my internet connection since downloading the latest iOS update 17.0.1. I am only able to access the internet through cellular data. My other devices are working on the wi-fi network normally. This issue began immediately after installing the update.

iPhone 11, iOS 17

Everyone try this:

  • go out of range of the affected wifi first because of the 30-60 second hang
  • go to settings->wifi
  • tap on Edit (you will have to authenticate)
  • find the affected SSID and tap on the (i) icon
  • turn off “Private wi-fi address”
  • exit
  • go back within range of affected wifi and see if it connects (may have to toggle wi-fi off/on)

AHA!

I have all my devices' MAC addresses in the allowlist for my router. All other addresses are blocked.

As I waited for my iOS17.1 iPhone to get an upgrade to 'fix' whatever happened, I was surprised this morning when my 16.6.1 iPad which I hadn't used in a few days suddenly started to be unable to connect with my WiFi either.

On my router admin screen, I also noticed a device with a local IP address, but a MAC I didn't recognize. HMMM.

Then I looked at my iPad's Settings -> WiFi -> (my router name) screen and there was a Private WiFi Address switch and it was turned on. I turned the switch off and the address changed. And suddenly my iPad could connect.

I did this with my iPhone, and bada-bing, I'm back in the saddle again.

Apparently this feature is supposed to give you a different address for different networks, so no one can track your device across networks??? Whaaat? Did I ask for this? I connect to one network - mine. Why was this feature automatically on??? OMG!

After update to IOS17 my phone refuses to use internet via wifi and is extremely slow via 5G. Devices connected to the wifi system are being recognised and can be used for airdrop. I used wifi in several locations with different routers. It makes no difference which router it is connected to. My ipad and other iphone function perfectly as does the iphone of my wife.

The routers cannot be the problem. The 5 G system also not.

the 5G connection is throttles down soo much that regular apps like tiktok instagr facebook time out and refuse to function.

only by using safari I can receive something. My Whatsap continues to try to connect.

Hi, I had the same problem with an extremely slow and almost non working connection with my ipad pro, this definitely solved it: go via internet browser to your router setting (by typing IP adress of your router and enter the admin password), find WIFI setting, and change "channel" to auto.. or try any other channel (for some TP-LINK routers: Wireless>Basic Settings>Channel>Auto). I had a fixed channel set up before. But strangely, the connection on both PC and Iphone with ios17 ran without a problem. Really it is probably some specific problem with the firmware that does not communicate properly with the router..
