Keyboard issues

I found someone else posted about the same issue I am having https://discussions.apple.com/thread/253602833

The Tilde symbol was making this §

The file from the previous discussion fixed it but now the right side of my left shift key is making the symbol and if I press in the middle it makes ± the left side of the key still does a shift.

If you look at the keyboard configuration in the thread there is an extra key to the left of the z. My keyboard does not have this and so it seems it is looking at the right side of my shift key as an extra key. I just got this laptop and there is an indention in the middle of the left shift key as if it could serve as two different function keys but I just want the entire key to shift. Can anyone help on this?

Please post a photo of this keyboard, it does not sound right. Either you have an ISO keyboard with a key between Z and left shift or you have an ANSI keyboard with a longer left shift and no key between it and Z. If yours has been hacked in some way to cover two keys with one key cap, you should return it and get a refund if possible. It may have other problems too.

Thanks! It looks like a normal US ANSI keyboard.

Please go to system settings > keyboard > text input > edit > input sources and remove the one you downloaded so that only the one provided by Apple called US English is left on the list.

When that is done, tell me what you get when you press the key below escape and when you press the right edge of the left shift key.

Thanks Tom...I tried some of these fixes and even deleted the one keyboard file in the library and went back and chose ansi on keyboard setup and even shows ansi keyboard on viewer but still doing the § where the tilde key is and the right side of left shift key is still doing the `. Is there a way to change these to the correct in Ukelele or the karabiner software?

Is there any place on the left shift key where you can press it and get tilde?

If you make the input source "US ISO Hi Tilde" the active keyboard, do you now get tilde on the shifted key under ESC, and § or ± still when you press the right side or middle of left shift?
