Apple Watch Ultra 2 VERY dim inside and dark enviroments..

Hello.

I just bought a very expensive Ultra 2 Watch. I am happy with the watch overall, but what totally ruins the experience is it is SO dim inside and in dark enviroments! I can hardly read it. There is no override available and the brightness is set to full. My son has a Series 6 and that is brighter in the same conditions. This cant be real? This so called "ULTRA" is more weak in brightness performance than an older regular Apple Watch. If there is something I HATE it is factory controlled auto stuff like this! We know the watch can be brighter so WHY on earth is it locked to a weak sensor that is WAY to low calibrated? I know its unfortunately not a hardware issue as ALL other Ultra Watch suffer from this ridicolous factory setting. Why can I not disable this auto dim or at least raise the lower minimum brightness. This is a disaster, as I can hardly read the watch in my office and living room where we have low light usually. This is almost a RETURN ISSUE for me! The fact that the user cannot set this setting when I bought and paid for the watch is a disgrace! And for those that reply its working as intended I can see by a search that hundreds of other users complain about this "error". This HAS to be corrected in a software update ASAP!

Just received my Apple Watch Ultra 2 today and loved it until nighttime. I cannot read my text messages at all because it’s so dim and the brightness feature does not do much. Please re-calibrate!!! This is unacceptable for a Watch at this price.

I usually scuba dive in the summer. So this evening I tested my watch in my local pool and realized it’s very difficult to see brightness under the water. I tried to increase brightness but it was at bar 3 (max) i can’t imagine how this holds up in a real life under water scenario in my lake .

this is not good.

I contacted Apple about it and was escalated. They, of course, don't acknowledge there is a problem, but all of their tests showed that the watch was fine. When I hold the Series 9 next to my Series 4, the difference is almost laughable. The 4 is way brighter! So, since I have AppleCare, Apple offered to ship me a new watch for no charge. Of course, it's going to have the same issue, but I can play that game forever. I'm looking forward to calling them back when I get the replacement and telling them it has the same problem!

I applaud you I went to the Grand Central store and when I was complaining about the issue, the two guys were both wearing the ultra and they’re telling me they haven’t experienced the issue and smiled. At the same time. We were all laughing. They exchange the watch I got a new one, knowing quite well it was not going to change, but you know what if enough people return and get a replacement maybe then they’ll take care of the issue

I have a feeling that Apple dosent pay attention at all, which is mind blowing for any company. They have not stated anything or even officially acknowledged the problem. There was just a new Watch OS released which had no fix for the lighting problem. And let´s be honest- it should be something the devs could do with their eyes closed. It requires SO little and have a HUGE impact/ difference. But I get it with feature and other requests that they cannot respond or carry out all of this. But something as fundamental as the light on the screen which makes it unreadable should seem like a TOP priority- not only for the customers, but also the reputation of the company it self. I honestly have a hard time wrapping my head around why they would not come forward, acknowledge it and at least comfort people with they are working on an update. Just total silence, no solution in sight based on the recent update and overall disrespect for the customers.

I never post on forums but I searched for this specific issue and was blown away by how many others are in the same boat. Absolute joke in low light, I can hardly see the thing. Comparing to my Series 7 which I am in the process of selling since I "upgraded", the difference is so insanely drastic.

Here's hoping this gets fixed but given how long people have been reporting this with no changes, I'm skeptical. Ridiculous on a product this expensive.

I think contacting the FTC is a great idea. The 'advertised feature' of being brighter is not there when you need it most. To me, it's beyond arrogance and disregard, but is completely deceitful. I feel like I've been scammed out of a lot of money and promised things that simply do not exist. My replacement is just as bad. Don't even get me started about the new 'double tap' feature that is also not as advertised and rarely works.

I was just escalated to a level 2 “advisor” and he told me there was no known issues in 10.1 and did the whole rigmarole of telling me to repair it to my phone and call him back. Think he just simply didn’t believe me, and completely ignored me when when I asked him to just google “Ultra 2 Dim display”.

The official word from Apple support is "the Ultra 2 watch is performing as expected." My continued contacts with Apple support and all of my cases (5 so far with this issue) are being passed on from senior advisors to the engineering department.

I would assume that the Apple support team have shared our many concerns (and those who utilize the Apple Product feedback link) with engineers. All we can do is hope that they will adjust future watchOS updates accordingly to solve this major issue that many users agree limits the use of the Ultra 2 watch in dark environments (night, dark/dim lit rooms, etc.). It's not a hardware issue, so swapping the brand new watch for a new brand new Ultra 2 watch just takes time away from you and Apple, is super inconvenient, and solves nothing.

The problem has nothing to do with the ability to write code and improve the brightness in dim environments. The problem for Apple Watch is and has been battery life (or lack of). How can Apple find a way to market to those out in rugged environments for days on end if the battery only lasts 36 hours??? Or regular users who can get multiple day battery with competing products? So the engineers had to solve that problem and the code which allows the watch to dim the screen (save battery) is the solution. Now they can say 72 hours battery life. So the solution has become the problem.

they can’t say… 72 hours if you don’t want to be able to view the watch in dim environments but 36 hours if you want to actually see the watch. That’s even worse. So here we are. They say it works fine. Enjoy the battery and get reading classes you old fart.

i returned my watch. Thousands of others have as well. But that is likely a small percentage compared to those that are “just dealing with it” and “loving the battery life” Otherwise they would make it brighter and kill the battery.
