iPhone 15 overheating

Hi everyone. I’ve recently purchased the new iPhone 15 pro max and it is heating up even when I’m not using it.

I was wondering if anyone else is having this issue or if it maybe a setting that is causing it that I can turn off?

Any advice is appreciated. :)

For all of you:

Do a simple Forced Restart on your new iPhone by:

  • Press and quickly release the volume up button
  • Then immediately press and quickly release the volume down button
  • Then immediately press and KEEP HOLDING the side power button and KEEP HOLDING it past the swipe to shut down and KEEP HOLDING it until the Apple Logo appears, then let go

Sign back in with your passcode when the phone prompt you and let the phone settle down over the next couple days. If you transferred a LOT of data, it can days for the indexing process to complete. There is likely NOTHING wrong with your phones.

Hey, if you don’t mind me asking what is indexing? My 15 PM is heating up a lot too. I noticed as soon as a turned it on and started setting up the phone. And now I’m charging it for the first time and got super hot even tho I wasn’t even using it. I picked it up to browse on Safari and felt the heat through my case. Idk what is up but I’m really upset. I didn’t pay over $1k for this

Same here. I noticed it on day 1, it was very noticeably hot after only minutes of using. It cools down when I lock it and set it down and then gets hot after just a couple of minutes. I only have 44GB used out of 256GB so I find it hard to believe that it’s indexing still. Mine before this was the 11 and I never had that issue even after an hour of use. My husband also got the 15 PM and he was even pretty taken back by how hot mine was. He mentioned it to me without me even saying it. He’s not experiencing this with his. It’s uncomfortably hot

Did you actually read all of the discussion here? As for mine, getting hot enough to be uncomfortable to hold while watching streaming video for 10 minutes, I hadn't had it on a charger for hours at that point.

Again, I'm not totally writing off the idea that indexing could be involved. This is far from my first rodeo with a new iPhone and I'm aware of indexing and the effects that it has. This is well beyond what I've experienced with it before though.

At the very least, I feel like it speaks very poorly to the thermals of the new phone. If it's going to heat up like this every time the processor gets a little taxed, that's potentially going to have a very significant impact on battery life and overall longevity. Apple may have finally overreached on what they can do with the current design here.

"If you think there is an issue with your new phone, instead of complaining on a user to user only forum, schedule an appointment at your Apple Store Genius Bar"

It's called discussion to see how wide-spread the problem is. Honestly, I expect that the Genius Bar will run their diagnostics on it and tell me that it's totally fine, because everything works. It just gets really hot while it's working. If it's only my phone, then I'll just return it while I'm still in my return period and get another one. If it's everyone's phones and getting another one won't fix the problem, then I'll have to think about what my other options are (probably returning it and going back to my 12 Pro for another year, good thing I didn't do that trade-in yet...).

This is called Apple Support "Communities." It really isn't a discussion forum. It is where users can ask other users for technical support. And users, if they can offer support provide it. Complaining over and over accomplishes nothing. I've offered things you can try. If you tried them and they didn't help, then contact Apple directly and have your phone tested.

Or keep complaining, which won't help you in any way.
