Transfered files from one macbook to a new MacBook Air. Reset password?

There is a process to setting up a new Mac. You first begin by starting the process of setting up your new computer. During that setup process you are asked to enter a user ID and a password. It can be the same or different from the one used in your old Mac. Did you not record it?
Next, you will be asked if you wish to transfer files. Apparently you have already done so.
When the migration is completed, you can log into the new Mac with the old User Account name and password and delete the brand-new user or leave it in place as a second admin account.
I hope this is helpful. Good luck.
That’s the problem. It won’t let me in with the old password. It does not give us the option of changing the password. Another response has indicated the computer may have been sold to someone else who may have set it up and Apple Store did not erase the o previous owners password. All we get is the screen requesting password. My password is not working. And I have not changed it either. It gives us no other options.
If this is a used computer, then the "other user" assessment is very likely correct.
Where did you purchase the new MacBook Air? If you bought it used, then the odds are it wasn't prepared properly for resale, and you'd have to contact the previous owner for the login password.
If you bought it from Apple, I'd take it back, as you should have seen a screen asking you to enter a new password when you went thru the Setup routine.
