The photo size on an iPhone is determined by several factors, including:

  1. The iPhone 12/13/14/15 Pro has multiple cameras, and each camera has a different resolution. The main camera has a 12-megapixel resolution, while the ultra-wide and telephoto cameras also have their own resolutions. The resolution is measured in pixels, and a higher resolution results in larger photos. For example, the main camera captures photos at 12 megapixels, which is approximately 4032 x 3024 pixels.
  2. You can choose between different photo formats, such as HEIC (High-Efficiency Image Format) or JPEG. HEIC photos are more efficient in terms of file size but maintain high image quality. JPEG photos are more common and may have slightly larger file sizes.
  3. You can adjust the quality settings in your iPhone's camera app. Higher quality settings capture more detail but result in larger file sizes.
  4. High Dynamic Range (HDR) photos capture multiple exposures and combine them to create a single image with a wider range of colors and tones. HDR photos can be larger in size due to the additional data captured.
  5. If you enable Live Photos, your iPhone will capture a few seconds of video along with the photo. Live Photos are larger in size compared to static photos.
  6. Using features like Portrait Mode, Night Mode, or Deep Fusion can also impact photo size. These features may require additional data processing, resulting in larger photo sizes.
  7. The choice of lens and focus settings can also influence the amount of detail captured in a photo, which can impact the file size.

In summary, the photo size on an iPhone 12/13/14/15 is determined by a combination of factors including camera resolution, format, quality settings, and the use of additional features. You can adjust some of these settings to control the size of the photos you capture.

When searched on Google I found this...

There are a few reasons why you might not be able to get 24MB pictures on your new iPhone 15.

  1. You are taking pictures in ProRAW format. ProRAW is a lossless image format that captures more detail and dynamic range than JPEG. However, ProRAW files are also much larger than JPEG files. A typical ProRAW file is around 25-50MB in size.
  2. You are taking pictures with the highest resolution setting. The iPhone 15's main camera has a resolution of 48MP. This means that it can capture images with a lot of detail. However, 48MP images are also very large. A typical 48MP image is around 100-150MB in size.
  3. You have enabled HEIF/HEVC compression. HEIF and HEVC are image and video compression formats that can save up to 50% of space on your device without sacrificing quality. However, HEIF and HEVC files are not supported by all devices and software. If you are sharing your photos with people who do not have HEIF/HEVC support, you may need to disable HEIF/HEVC compression.
