Apple TV 4K unit vs app in Sony TV

Is my Apple TV 4k box redundant if my tv already has the App?

My new Sony Bravia TV already comes with the Apple TV app in the television menu. Does this make my Apple TV 4K unit obsolete or is there a higher bitrate picture or music that comes from streaming from my box vs using the included app?
