Hi,

The Canon MG3620 is an AirPrint-supported model.

About AirPrint - Apple Support

How is the printer connected? Are you using AirPrint (driverless) or Canon drivers for printing? Is printing working?

The latest macOS 11 Big Sur drivers can be found here:

https://www.usa.canon.com/support/p/pixma-mg3620

DOWNLOADS -> Software & Drivers -> Operating System -> Version

Are you using Canon scanning software or Apple's Image Capture?

ICA driver?

Hello again,

Thank you for the updated information.

>did go online to canon help & paid $20 fee for 30 day support

I assume that this was the official Canon support. There are several dubious third-party online "support" sites, so be careful. As mentioned by Canon USA: https://www.usa.canon.com/about-us/to-our-customers/official-canon-product-support .

>also tried cleaning printer heads from canon utility & error

What happens if you turn the printer off and then on, and try printing the nozzle check pattern (exactly as described on page 141 in the above manual) using the Stop button on the printer? This should normally work even with a "standalone" printer, without a computer connection, and would be a basic test to rule out any external influence.

>not sure I understand the difference feature for the blue light wifi or AirPrint features

The blue light would indicate how the wireless (Wi-Fi) connection as such is working.

Apple's AirPrint technology on the other hand can be used with wireless or wired (Ethernet) network connections, and in some cases even USB, and should be looked upon more as a printing method. AirPrint relies upon Bonjour/mDNS for device discovery and IPP for printing. The idea is to make it possible for Mac computers and iPhones/iPads to print without the need for additional software (drivers for Macs and apps for iOS/iPadOS devices). In order to enable this, an AirPrint-supported printer must follow certain rules and work in harmony with macOS, iOS and iPadOS.

Xerox has a white paper Enabling Apple® AirPrint® with Your Xerox® AltaLink® Multifunction Printer. The general technical information about how AirPrint works, including details about Bonjour/mDNS, could perhaps be of interest to you.

Do you have access to an iPhone or iPad? If so, you could also use such a device to test AirPrint printing via the router (provided, of course, that the printer per se is working).

no not printing as well;

did install updated drivers for Big Sur, twice now; still have same error message; I assume using AirPrint drivers as air print blue light is on or activated on printer; but the error triangle w lightening bolt & yellow light is on as well thank you for your response

MG3620 is listed as compatible on Apple Support Air Print

Thank you for the information.

The driverless AirPrint technology is not to be confused with wireless printing in general. I assume that the blue light indicates a wireless printer connection to the Wi-Fi router, and that your Mac is connected to the same router (and that the computer can access the Internet). Correct?

Using AirPrint, it should be possible to print without having to install additional printer drivers.

Make sure that you have backup copies of all important files. Software conflicts cannot be ruled out.

To begin with, you could try to reset the Mac printing system (as described in the aforementioned Apple article) and then re-add the printer.

Next, check whether there is any change regarding printing and scanning.

For scanning, you may want to test the Image Capture application (in macOS) as well. The above Canon site has an ICA driver.

If there is an AirPrint discovery problem, and if all settings are OK, you could also carry out a test with the following power-cycle procedure (in this order, with these waiting times, do not forget the router): Power off the Wi-Fi router, the printer, the Mac, all iPhones and iPads, and any other computers/devices. Wait two to three minutes. Power on the router. Wait two to three minutes. Power on the printer. Wait a minute or two. Power on the Mac. Power on all iPhones and iPads. Finally, power on any other computers/devices.

the yellow alarm or error light blinking 3 x; online canon help notes paper jam but there is no paper jam; checked front & back paper access ports;

have more than one printer in printer preference so resetting printer preferences wary as do not want to lose other printer (brother laser for documents)

did go online to canon help & paid $20 fee for 30 day support but not available Sat/Sun

also tried cleaning printer heads from canon utility & error "the executed process is in standby condition. check the print queue." there are no jobs in que;

so with alarm error blinking etc beginning to think the printer itself may have a firmware problem

again grateful for your response

The blue light on my Canon all-in-one (different model) indicates that the Wi-Fi interface is enabled, not that the printer has a wireless LAN connection. Possibly the light goes off once it is connected. I'm using AirPrint with a direct USB connection, and normally have the printer's Wi-Fi turned off.

Hi,

According to page 179 in the MG3600 series manual (link also in my earlier reply):

(3) Wi-Fi lamp

Lights or flashes to indicate the wireless LAN status.

Lights:

Wireless LAN connection is enabled.

Flashes:

Printing or scanning over wireless LAN. Also flashes while configuring the wireless LAN

connection.
