An error occurred downloading iOS 16.7

Make sure that your iPhone is setup to meet the following requirements before you attempt to update the iOS version over a Wi-Fi Network. Open Settings ➡️ General ➡️ Software Update: If there is an update available for your iPhone then it will be listed here. Follow the on-screen instructions to download and update your iPhone. 

• Your iPhone must have a fast Wi-Fi connection; you cannot update over cellular data or a cellular hotspot
• The iPhone can not be in Low Power mode
• The battery state of charge must be above 50%
• Your iPhone must have at least 8GB or more free storage space
• Your iPhone cannot be connected through VPN
• You should leave the phone plugged in until it finishes updating, both to assure that it remains above 50% and to keep Wi-Fi enabled (Wi-Fi turns off when the phone sleeps if not connected to power).

Make sure your phone has met the requirements to update to a new IOS Version, Your phone must be: connected to a fast network you’re phone cannot update over cellular or personal hotspot, Make sure iphone is not in low power mode, make sure your phone has enough storage, keep phone plugged in while trying to update. if all else fails try to update by ITunes

I have an iPhone SE 2020 and had the same problems with the 16.7 Update.

These things worked for me, be sure that you have 8GB of free space on your phone an do a hard reset and than try again to install the update over WiFi and have more than 60% of power.

I don't know why this happens. On my iPhone SE 2020 the update failed when I had only 3 or 6GB of free storage, when I removed some files to 7,96 GB of free storage it worked. Maybe the error messages are not correct. Try to restart your phone delete some files start once again. I did it 6 times and it worked with 8GB of free storage on the phone. Maybe Apple will fix some thing within the update process in the next days... Good Luck!

Finally, in my case, deleting all data and restoring from the iCloud backup has helped. After that, another attempt to install the update was successful

Restart your iPhone, connect it to a charger, connect it to good working WiFi, and if you have 8GB of free storage on your phone -> try again.

Use iTunes with computer

IPad 8th also failed. I kept deleting apps and it finally installed once I reached 25.8GB of 32GB

So what I did was turn off the wifi and turn on again

I realized that the storage required to upgrade the OS is 8 GB. I cannot imagine the developers who wrote the min storage requirement is 3.52 GB. Apple should stop selling 64 GB storage on which 1/8 storage is required for OS. Such a shame!

If you didn't need Apps like Pages, Numbers oder Garage Band on your iPhone, you can delete these and you will get around 2GB of free storage, maybe this works for you....
