I am sending a few sine wave pops out the main out left, and patching that directly to input 2, recording the pops on another track, then zooming in and comparing the two
the looped back track shows up *earlier than the source track, and they are exactly out of phase
how could that be? I don't think I have any latency correction going on, buffer set to 256

• A sine wave is not suitable for determining the latency. Use an impulse instead.
• If you really found "negative latency", you would win a Nobel Prize in physics.
• Reasons for your claim, besides the use of non-suitable audio source for comparison, could be: activated low-latency mode, latency-compensation, plugins and more.
How was your recording setup in detail?
Is "Recording Delay" also set to 0 samples (default)?

yes it seems like there must be some latency compensation going on but I can't figure out where -- I don't see any boxes checked or anything

It is not clear from your pictures that there is a common starting point. It could also be that the recording was started at a later point. Also, the waveforms do not look identical. The only thing you can see from the pictures is that the waveforms are out of phase with each other.
ok, round two:
-confirmed that plug in latency/compensation (the logic x settings) are all set to off
-no plug ins at all
-core audio system enabled
then re-ran the loopback recording with woodblock hits:
same result: the lower track (the looped back recording) shows up as *earlier than the source track. how is this happening?
