The Apple ID Cannot Be Used to Unlock This iPhone.

My friend bought a used iPhone and set it up with their Apple ID. But after a factory reset the phone says that it cannot be unlocked with this Apple ID. Did the iPhone reset to the original owner? The first letter of the e-mail that is shown doesn't match my friend's Apple ID.

This iPhone is most likely activation locked. Your friend should contact the seller, they should remove the lock for them. If your friend cannot contact the seller or they won't remove the lock, I am afraid your friend got scammed, there is no way to unlock the activation lock without the details of the account that the iPhone is locked to.
