My computer shows a “you shut down because an error “ message. Have done several things including reistalling the OS to correct that with apple support with no success. What is my next option?

You shut down your computer due to a problem message when starting up my MacBook Pro. Disk utility app did not solved this, neither re-installing the OS.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 13.6

Reinstalling the OS does not replace settings that may be causing the problems.

I suggest you create a new admin user, login with it and retest. Your current user profile may be corrupt.

After that, you can completely replace OS with a fresh one: Create a bootable installer for macOS - Apple Support

If you take this route, be sure you have good backups. But don't use Migration Assistant right away.

If this new OS does fix your problems, don't restore settings. The problem may be in a setting and if you restore them you're right back where you started. Other than user data, the rest you can rebuild from scratch.

Kernel Panic Reports are stored at:

/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports

If you copy and paste that string into:

Finder > Go menu > Go to Folder

it will take you to the Folder where those reports are stored.

They are named with Date&Time and start or end in ‘panic’

If you find one, please post the entire report here, by using the “additional text” Icon in the reply footer (looks like a paper with writing).

Please don’t post more about 20 lines of any other types of reports — they are interminable, and any information useful for this purpose is on the first screenful.
