Photos search function no longer working on my iPhone post iOS 17 upgrade

After installing the latest IOS upgrade a couple of days ago the search function on Photos no longer works as before (on Ipad or IPhone) Used to be able to search by date or date range to find photos taken on those dates and now it’s not working that way. It was working fine the morning before I did the IOS upgrade 17 and afterwards it no longer worked that way.

I fixed it! Again, currently, I don't use icloud, everything came from an Itunes backup that had over 80k photos total. How I fixed it.

I reset location services as some write-ups have said it may not be working properly. The Photos app and Camera are using your phone’s location via GPS to tag photos or photos. To reset Location Services. On your device, go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset Location & Privacy. This will reset your location settings to the factory default.

After that I did a hard reset and I could see the photos start updating in the search crazy fast.

One other small annoyance, I came from an Iphone XS with super old firmware, and now on a 15 pro with 17.4.

In text messages, say someone texted you today, and you went in and deleted the individual text from them, (this would move the conversation back down your list to say yesterday or the last time they texted you, and that message wouldn't show up at the top of your screen still) Now with ios 17.4, if you delete say all the texts someone sent you today, their message thread still says up at the same spot from the original time stamp that was sent to you. It doesn't know to put that message down in your list further after you delete the single messages. I don't know when that changed? or if it's a bug in the new ios.

Or say you send a new text today to someone that that haven't texted in a few days ago... If you delete your own message that you just sent them after you send it, it still has their message thread at the TOP of your phone, it doesn't push it back to a few days later where it should be.

Yes I tried all of these. Since it no longer works the way it used to, there should be a function to allow you to search by “taken on” to find all photos taken on a particular day or date range-irregardless of GPS or anything else. That is how it used to work. If you typed in a particular date or range all photos taken on that day would come up.

Same issue and then some. All photos on airdrops going to iCloud instead of phone. I’ve spent hours searching for fixes and tried them all. Spent hours more with work because nothing is working properly to streamline as usual.

I always swipe up and add notes to media on my phone. Nothing is working In the search now like it use to.

Apple, most of the reasons I use your product are not working anymore with this update. Please fix ALL of this.

Unbelievably ridiculous.

I am having the same issue with the photos app. It started slowly. When I did a search , I only got a few pictures related to the search , when I knew I had hundreds . Now I get nothing . I also have to wait for my pictures to format to be able to send. I get a swirling circle. If I take the photo in messages and send, I have no issue. But if the photo is taken in photos , I have to wait to be able to send. I took my phone to the Apple Store to have a “Genius” check it out. They were stumped . They said they had never heard of this issue , and it was probably an update glitch. I pulled up to his site and showed them all the other people having issues. I was there for about an hour between sign in, assessment of my issues, and seeing a technician. My search still isn’t working , and pictures still take forever to be ready to share.

Did anyone fix this? I just restored from a backup to a new Iphone 15 pro, ios 17.4 and searching photos by city and state, etc. only show a few results. All the photos are there but you can't search them now. Only a few results. Any tips?

I recently restored from a iTunes backup from iPhone XS to new iPhone 15 pro. When searching photos and typing in “city or state, etc. there a very few results, my old phone has hundreds listed under the same names. On most photos it only shows the date only, UNTIL you swipe up in the photo, only then will you see the location of the photo added from just seeing the date. The new phone was on 17.0.2 and also updated it to 17.4 and no change. Any ideas? I know sometimes things need to index but how do I know for sure it’s doing it? Any help would be great.

Here it is, April 2024, and Search function on the photos program on my 2023 16"MacBook Pro, with all of the updated OS software, still won't work !

I have thousands of insect pictures, downloaded from my Lumix digital camera, downloaded and all neatly titled with their latin names in Photos, and "Search" simply won't find them.

"Search" worked just fine on my old MacBook, and on their old OS. but now that I have a new MacBook and the most recent Sonoma OS ….nothing.

One would think it shouldn't take rocket science to make this work, but I guess it's still too much for Apple ?
